Comments: Gabi,
God bless you for sharing your story, for carrying Bill's life forward to affect positive change through education and tolerance, and especially for the boundless strength and compassion you so obviously gave as a parent in Bill's lifetime, as now.

In the face of hate, misunderstanding and injustice, you restore my faith. Bayit shalom.

Comments: Dear Gabi,

Thank you for being so courageous to share your story with the world. The pictures of your son Bill will ‘haunt’ me for some days. Especially the contrast between your favourite picture (the one on the couch) and the one where we see him all tormented (with the red shirt and the purple sash). Thank you for your warm and decent voice from across the ocean. We need that here to keep balance.

Love Frank

Comments: I am sorry for the loss of your son. The hate needs to stop in this world. There is no room for it. Some people need to be more open-minded, and have to realize that lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgendered people are human, and they/we do have feelings. One day, I do hope to change the way people think about our society, and that this just made me even stronger to stop the hate that is in our world.

I can only hope for myself and all else, that the world will someday grow to be accepting. The hate needs to stop. I guess it has to take one tear at a time.

Comments: Thank you for sharing your story of your son with me. I am a single mother and am a lesbian. I am out to most of my friends but none of my family. It is hard to live this sort of lifestyle as you know.
I came accross your page because of a research project that I am starting on for my masters degree in community counseling. The topic of my paper is going to be violence against gays: why and what does it say about american society. I have chosen this topic because of many comments that have been made during several of my counseling courses. Even the most accepting tolerant people of the counseling proffesion push the anit gay topic. I find this disgusting and uneducated. Anyway to make a long story short I am putting a portfolio together of several articles spaced throughout the semester concerning hate crimes. If you would like to oblige me please send me whatever information you have on this matter. Also if you would like a copy of my complete term paper to share with your organization I would love to share with you. THank you again Lyn M Miller

Comments: Gabi...I was just now sent the url to Bill's story. I just want to say that I am so sorry for your loss..and for the world's loss in what sounds like would have been a wonderfully gifted person in your son Bill. I am a married mother of 2 (a dgtr 12 and son 15). To this point my children seem to be straight. However, 2 of my closest, most long time friends are gay (and brothers at that!). Through them I have met many other gay and lesbian folks who have been a joy to meet. I just want you to know that I have talked to both of my children concerning sexual orientation and have assured them both that if either of them should ever feel that they are homosexual that it would not make one bit of difference in how much they were loved or thought of. I make it a point to stand up for the civil rights of all races, religions, and sexual orientations. I don't provide the world with loud speeches, or write papers to the editor. My contribution is much smaller than that...what I do is to teach my children that everybody deserves to be shown love, kindness and respect no matter what. My kids are kind and loving and lacking in prejudice of any kind...and I suspect their children will be raised in the same manner, and their children and their children...and so on. So my gift is a legacy of tolerance, equality and kindness. I hope that Bill would appreciate the subtlety of my gift. I will be sharing his story with both of my children which will generate a great deal of conversation between us. Thank you so much for the courage you show in sharing Bill's story.

With hope in my heart,

Robin Mikealson-Sparrow

I never understood how people can hate someone without ever getting to know them first as real people and not some prejudice of one kind or another. just because we are different is no reason for hate. I dont know if this world will ever be what it should be, but i do understand why he killed himself...i understand very well. my email account is not active currently but will be in the future. please enjoy my website. also please enjoy my favorite bulletin board for GLBT at this address http://return.to/digitalrainbow/

Comments: Dear Gabi and Alec,

I am so sorry to read about your sons death and the horrfic events that led up to his death. I think he was a brave young man coming out so young, and from what his teachers said about him, he was a person who would have been a positive influence on anyone who met him.

I can't imagine the pain your going though, but I do admire the way you are keeping your sons memory alive and campaigning for justice.

When I was a teenager in high school, my two best friend's were openly gay and we received a lot of abuse (I was even abused for having short hair). The worst attack was at a school dance when my friend was beaten unconcscious and suffered a broken cheek bone. He received little support from the school at the time and the young men who attacked him were not prosecuted. They did not belong to the school and we did not know them.

Happily my friend recovered from the attack (although I expect he still is haunted by the memory) and we escaped to the big city. I hope the world is becoming a more tolerant place.

Kind regards,

Lynne

Bill is with our loving God waiting for us to join him. Thnak you for your efforts. Erek
