How would you reply?

I woke up this morning to this email:

Subject: about Bill
Date: Wed, 4 Aug 2010 09:28:47 +0000
From: alex smith (email address deleted by Gabi)
To: gabi@gabiclayton.com

I hope you now see that you’re rebellion against God’s laws led to your son’s death. If you really loved your son, you would not have led him on a rebellion against God. Why is this so difficult for you to understand?

I don’t get them often now but I’m tired of getting any email like this one* and so from now on I will publish them.

How would you reply?

* A little history:
When I had an active guestbook on my website and someone signed with a negative response to Bill’s story I left it there – along with all the wonderful ones and the sad ones – so people could see what hate looked like.

  1. Other than suggesting he check a grammar book to learn the difference between your and you're, I'd ignore it. I think the poor grammar shows that this isn't someone whose opinion matters, and probably whose opinion can't be changed. People who would attack a grieving mother–even this many years later–on the death of her son are lower than low and aren't worth spending emotional energy on.

  2. I wouldn't dignify it with a response. The world is full of idiots, and you could spend the rest of your life trying to educate them, but I fear that for every one who hears you and changes their thinking, another 99 will just jam their fingers into their ears even harder.

And I agree with Bev: people who do this to you are really pathetic.

  3. dito on no response and leaving it up. I will slide a soap box to this person and help them up on it so that more people can hear for themselves the deficiency of some peoples minds.

  4. Gabi, I am sorry for your loss of your son. I am sorry for any pain that this "person of god" may have passed on to you.

And, I am sorry that this person has NO understanding of what Christ attempted to teach all of us: unconditional love.

If he feels that we must conform to his beliefs before he shows any love, then:
    – he doesn't understand Christ's concepts of unconditional love
    – he doesn't accept the teaching of Christ
    – he doesn't want to accept the true teachings of Christ
    – he definitely is telling us that he is not a follower of Christ

The only conclusion to be drawn: this person is NOT Christian.

Whatever god he chooses to worship is not the God of Love, nor God, The Father, that Christ taught us about!

I pray for his soul and his conversion to the Christianity expressed in the Holy Bible!
